In-school — Drama Workshop

Duration: 1 hour

In-school — The History of Horror: A Gothic Fiction Creative Writing Workshop

A thrilling and interactive tour through the world of Gothic literature, beginning with an amusing introduction to the life of a horror writer and a dramatic ‘campfire’-style reading. With appropriate imagery, students will then be guided from the early roots of strange fiction in ancient literature, through the dark Germanic folklore that inspired the Brothers Grimm, to the social and scientific earthquakes of the Industrial Revolution and Darwinism that informed the Victorian classics of the genre. At the conclusion, students will have a firm idea of the origins of Gothic, its common themes, and its historical and modern relevance.

William Hussey is the author of several award-winning supernatural novels for children and adults. His latest, Jekyll’s Mirror, is a modern-day reworking of Jekyll and Hyde set against a backdrop of social media and cyberbullying. He has almost a decade of experience delivering school workshops in the UK and abroad.

Duration: Up to 2 hours + Q&A
The price of this workshop is £300.
